June 7, the day when a huge crowd of fans attended the famous Vampire Fan Weekend convention, a weekend filled with everything related to the TV series The Vampire Diaries and more. During this convention, fans could meet actors and actresses from The Vampire Diaries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood, and many others.
That same night, the convention organizer, Creation Entertainment, offered fans an exclusive concert of the house band Mercy Mode, which had two actors from The Vampire Diaries as members: Chase Coleman, the frontman, and Micah Joe Parker, who was also the main host for that weekend’s actors/actresses panels and activities.
Fans lined up outside the panel room since 7:30 P.M., and when I arrived there around 8:10 P.M., I saw lots of people with hoodies and T-shirts of the band. As everyone waited, there was a buzz of excitement in the air. “Never heard them live before, but excited to see this concert!” said Imally, a 30-year-old Brazilian TVD fan who lives close to the hotel where the convention was held. “I drove here to experience the convention and concert this weekend for the first time ever, and I have been having so much fun so far!” she continued.
Around 8:30 p.m., the convention staff let fans into the panel room to see the concert. Some people sat on the chairs, and some people created a GA line across the front row. A few minutes later, convention host Parker was the first to show up on stage to introduce the band, and then he was joined by frontman Coleman and the rest of the band members.
The first song the band Mercy Mode played was an electric cover of Burn, originally sung by The Cure. This song was a hit amongst the crowd, as everyone was singing along with the lyrics. Next, there was Mercy Mode’s famous song Wild Nights, which was a banger!
The concert went on with a special guest joining Mercy Mode on stage: TVD actor Chris Brochu, who also posted a few self-written songs on Soundcloud for fans to hear. He performed two of them for the eager crowd of fans: Make Believe and Queen. After those two soulful performances from Brochu, Coleman came back on stage with Mercy Mode to perform a cover of Lady Gaga’s Shallow, alongside his fiancée, actress Taylor Murphy Sinclair. That made fans feel in awe at their breathtaking performance!
The rest of the concert included a few of the most famous Mercy Mode songs, such as Take It All, Run Away, Lost in You, and their latest single, Breakthrough.
To make the concert more entertaining for fans, the band also did a few more rock/alternative covers, like ‘Shout’ from Tears for Fears, ‘Sex’ by The 1975, ‘Machinehead’ by Bush, and the famous ‘All The Small Things’ by Blink-182 for the encore, which made fans jump and sing along to the lyrics. What a wonderful way to end such a perfect night!
